The International Division of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ID of ABCS) is an international certifying board that exclusively tests internationally-based surgeons’ knowledge and experience in cosmetic surgery. “Internationally based” refers to surgeons who practice outside North America. The ID of ABCS is an independent subspecialty board that examines and certifies physicians in Dermatologic Cosmetic Surgery, Facial Cosmetic Surgery, Body, Breast & Extremity Cosmetic Surgery, and General Cosmetic Surgery.
This Board is dedicated to patient safety and physician education in cosmetic surgery. The ID of ABCS is designed for extraordinary internationally-based surgeons that demonstrate the highest standards of training, knowledge and expertise, while promoting the safe and ethical practice of the subspecialty of cosmetic surgery. The ID of ABCS prides itself as being the highest standard of measure for this subspecialty.
Criteria for geographic eligibility of International Exam Candidates include, but are not limited to, the following:
No North American/U.S. Surgeon is allowed to become certified by the ID of ABCS unless they qualify under the ABCS credentialing requirements.
No candidates licensed in the United States and its territories are eligible for certification by the ID of ABCS unless they qualify under the ABCS credentialing requirements.
No candidates with ACGME training are eligible for certification by the ID of ABCS unless they qualify under the ABCS credentialing requirements.
If an international-based surgeon successfully passes the examination for certification by the ID of ABCS, the international certification will become null, void, and revoked if the surgeon subsequently becomes licensed to practice in the United States and its territories.

DISCLAIMER: The American Board of Cosmetic Surgery (ABCS) has contracted with the ID of ABCS to administer an annual examination to Candidates approved by the ID of ABCS. The examination process, although similar to the examination process administered by the ABCS, confers no right upon an International Candidate to use in any way shape or form the fact the ABCS administered the examination upon which the ID of ABCS granted membership to the International Candidate of the ID of ABCS. The ID of ABCS utilizes its own standards and criteria in determining who may take the examination (subject to certain geographical restrictions) and the appropriate cut score for pass/fail results. The ABCS furnishes a raw score that the ID of ABCS utilizes in determining their pass/fail score. The ABCS does not control the way this cut score is applied and makes no assurances, expressed or implied, about the qualification of any International Candidate.
